I am proud to announce the second spoken word cover in my upcoming “album”! (see the previous post for details)
By request, I’ve covered Pokerface by Lady Gaga! (As an interesting side note, prior to her Lady Gaga days, she was a singer/songwriter. Quite an interesting musical turnaround.) Furthermore, I’m not the first to do a spoken word version of the song; Christopher Walken did a reading of part of the song, which is also definitely worth a listen.
Anyway, without further historical context, here it is, complete with an orchestral backing track!
Seven Two Off-Suit [Pokerface by Lady Gaga]
So, have you ever listened to William Shatner’s spoken-word interpretations of various songs? If you haven’t, I highly recommend checking out his cover of Common People, originally by Pulp. Don’t even bother listening to the original; it’s got nothing on Shatner’s. No, really.
Many of today’s pop songs, however, have not been (and probably never will be) covered by Shatner. As such, there is a decided lack of spoken-word interpretations of modern pop music. However…that’s all about to change.
It is with this in mind that I would like to present, for your review, this preview track from my upcoming “album” Transformed Pop. Here we have a version of Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold”, as interpreted by me. Beethoven must be spinning in his grave.

In Spring 2009, I took a class on video game design at whatever college I went to! For my group’s game concept, we came up with TCNJ RPG, the RPG where you play as a student! Unfortunately, due to a variety of factors (including, but not limited to, the lack of time, the fact that the class’s teacher proved to have a knack for getting hung up on largely irrelevant issues while ignoring things like keeping the project on schedule, and that the class was forced to use a toolkit that proved not at all suitable for complex games), the game was never finished!
That said, I did manage to compose quite a few songs for it, all of which solely use the Setzer SPC soundfont, giving them that SNES sound that is so popular nowadays. So here they are!

Another song along the same vein as Fermat Point, using a consistent chord progression (A Minor, G Major, F Major) throughout the song, with a lot of looping. (Though not as much.)
It’s supposed to be somewhat upbeat or inspiring, or something along those lines.

After an extremely disheartening jam session wrought with naught but teen angst of the most somber, dismal, joyless degree, James Babu, Kris Mayer and that meddling fool Matt Richers recorded what could possibly have been the epitome of tribulation, the essence of woe, the typified personification, if you will, of utter dysphoric wretchedness.
And then I added some Apple Loops.

My little brother and I were bored one day, so we decided to enter yet another one of Virgin Mobile’s lame competitions. This time it was “Create a theme song.” How original. At any rate, after a few Apple loops and voice transforms, we created this crime against music. Beethoven must be spinning in his grave.
